I really liked the show too. I wrote up a piece on it here:

I was excited when I found out the show was coming to TLC, but I'm a little dissapointed with the first episode. I really think there was more "acting" and "coaching" than was necessary.

I've cooked several events with Jack's Old South in the past. I was set up next to them in Sebring, FL a few years ago. They let us borrow quite a bit of hot water in return for Linda cleaning some of their knives.

I've never officially met Smokin Triggers, but I cooked in Lakeland, FL and Brooksville, FL at some events they attended. I was set-up near them in Brooksville and it started raining on me while I put up my canopy. After watching BBQ Pitmasters, I see that Tuffy probably would have offered to help me put up the tent. I wish he'd have been there that day because I'd have stayed a lot dryer.

I'll reserve my final judgement until the second episode airs, but I hope the "entertainment value" is scaled down a little and the real personalities are allowed to shine through more.

I'm not convinced that the Texas Chef wasn't coached to act the way he did. I found his antics, and especially his presentation boxes, a little on the unbelievable side. Maybe he really did those things on his own, but if so I'll bet he'll have a hard time living them down.
