Famous Dave's Barbecue

CNBC's The Big Idea with Donny Deutsch featured Dave Anderson, founder of Famous Dave's, on tonight's program. His company has expanded from one restaurant in a town of 1,800 people and today it's expanded across the country and reported sales of $400,000 million last year.

The decor reminds me a lot of Logan's Road House and even Cracker Barrel in certain aspects, but it's hard to argue with Mr. Anderson's success in the bbq world.

I might not argue with his financial success but I take issue with the local Famous Dave's not actually smoking their meat. I was so disappointed with the brisket (no smoke ring, liquid smoke flavor) and the ribs were just like any "roadhouse" that oven roasts them. I hear that there is a big difference between the corporate run units and the franchised ones, so maybe that is the problem here. If I was Dave, I'd yank the franchise from Knoxville.

Hi Chris,

We ate at Shane's Rib Shack yesterday and they don't smoke their meat either. The ribs were lukewarm and there was no smoke ring what so ever. It was a big dissapointment.
