Orion Stainless Steel BBQ Cooker

I've not cooked on an Orion Stainless Steel Cooker or seen one up close yet at this point, but the Home Depot mailer we received today had an advertisement for one. They sell them on Amazon for around $150.00 and Home Depot has them priced at $129.00.
The description says that you can smoke a 20-lb turkey in 2 hours or up to 6 racks of ribs in an hour and 15 minutes.
I'll reserve my judgement about the accuracy of the advertisement because I do not have first hand experience to validate cooking times, but the skeptic in me doubts that a turkey will cook that fast and I also doubt that 6 racks of ribs would be cooked tender.

I'm with you. It is flashy, shiny and all, but I doubt the cooking times. Hell, I could "cook" it that fast throwing it in a 450 degree oven.....doesn't make it good though:)

I there's one thing I've learned through bbq...it's that you can't rush good food!

The Home Depot near me has one of these (or a close varient). Think of a classic Brinkmann upright smoker with shelves and you're not too far from the mark. Throw in a little Dutch oven and you'll get closer. The only way I see that thing cooking a whole turkey in two hours is if the turkey's in small peaces. Even then I bet it'll be dry.

Do a google search on Orion Cooker. Then click on about.com. Read the 25 comments from people who use the cooker. Pretty interesting. Seems like it can do everything it says.

well, I bought one and the food was impressive. I was doubtful at first but an hour later I had two racks that were impressive

I bought one awhile back and I have used it about 20 times. It can cook a turkey in alittle over 2 hours and 6 racks of spare ribs in about 1-1/2 hours. Not dry at all and taste good. But don't think this is a smoker because it is not! Sure you can throw some wood chips inside and they smoke alittle but you don't get the smoke ring in your meat and the smoke flavor does not penetrate the meat at all. It's called a cooker and that is just what it is! The charcoal goes in the outside ring and top of the lid, the food is sealed in the small drum. The food is completely removed from the charcoal. It kinda cooks with convection & steam. I have to finish ribs up on the grill to get them crispy on the outside because it is like they have been steamed. It makes some juicy meat for sure but I think you could get the same result in your oven with a covered roasting pan minus the wood chips. I saw almost the same thing at ACE Hardware called a "Rocket Roaster" for $34.95 check it out. I prefer the good old fashion way of BBQ, it just can't be cheated!

It's a CONVECTION current that cooks so fast. The fire is at the bottom and on the top. I've used mine several times, and it is fast, plus very very tender. No putzing around with the barbeque, you just put it on and leave it until time to open up the cooker.

It's a nice Orion Stainless Cooker and its unique. I've never seen a Cooker that the fire is at the top and bottom. I think if I use this cooker I can cook quickly for my family.
