Thursdays at 10:00 eastern / 9:00 central

I wonder if the rules state that they have to use Kingsford charcoal.

  1. Wow. The show is different this year, isn't it?

Just watched episode 1 of season 2. I was disappointed and will probably not watch the rest of the season. I can watch any other reality show and get more out of it. It is supposed to be about BBQ, right?

The pork was good from all the teams, but the cole slaw was the defining food. At least cook it on the smoker if you are going to let it determine if a team stays or goes. I am guessing that BBQ will be treated like a garnish and side dishes will be the main event.

  3. Somehow I managed to miss season 1, but judging just from the trailer, it's pretty funny how they've taken the standard reality show formula--the three judges and their piercing critiques, the elimination rounds, the competitors' running commentary--and applied it to something that already has a well-established set of rules. Why not just film a competitive barbecue circuit season?

  4. Different is one word for it....

I'll keep watching it but only because I was to see some of my friends do well on TV. If I didn't know some of the competitors, I wouldn't be as likely to watch.

  5. Season 2 is just plain bad. It is not interesting and you lose all the fun of Season 1.
Shame, as that show got me thinking of my Texas bbq days and made me go buy my Traeger.
Sold out to Kingsford - who would actually use that stuff for cooking FOOD!?!
"They're baaaack" - is actually from Poltergeist :)
    Cheers,

  6. Hi Dan,

So that I'm not mixing my movie metaphors and confusing everyone, I took that comparision out. I was actually thinking of "Freddy's home" from Nightmare on Elm Street, but since I didn't know a Freddy in BBQ Pitmasters used "They're back" instead.

At any rate, the first episode reminded me of a nightmare I once had.

Oh my god did they ruin this show. If I wanted to watch survivor with a food twist. I would watch one of the many sh** shows on food network. What I liked most from season 1 was seeing the BBQ competitions around the country and what it took to win them. What will they do next on BBQ pitmasters season 2? Make the contestants bake a pie while watching the first episode of this season. The winner will be the team that doesn't throw up. Thanks for ruining one of my favorite shows TLC.

Bring back the Season 1 format and have this host guy crawl back to so cal. Myron must be getting some big time $$ cause he looks like he SO does not want to be there.

I have to agree with several other posters. I really enjoyed season 1. It was real, interesting, and devoid of the fabricated drama and conflicts of your typical "reality" show. This season is tacky, contrived garbage by comparison.

I agree that it is now Survivor with a food twist. I am done watching. Too bad; it was an interesting program.
