Newell's BBQ Blog has some pretty neat pictures of bbq smokers he built out of simple garden variety materials. There are posts including a bbq smoker made from a flower pot and another made from a trash can.
TwoThirds.org also has a version of the flower smoker posted with pictures of some ribs cooked in the improvised terracotta smoker.
